About Bwishaza Bundle | Rwanda
Our coffees from Rwanda are directly traded with producers and we are able to offer full transparency and detailed information on these coffees. For more information on how we source coffees, take a look at our Transparency Report.
Coffee is delivered to the Bwishaza washing station daily during the harvest period (February to June) by small-hold farmers. Usually, they deliver anything between 10 and 100kg, depending on the size of their farm.
After the delivery, coffee is floated in water. Defects tend to float, and the good-quality cherry will sink. After the flotation, for the washed coffee, the cherry is pulped to remove the fruit and then fermented dry in tanks for about 12 hrs. After fermentation, the coffee is washed and graded in channels to remove any remaining mucilage and is then moved to raised tables to dry.
The honey process removes the washing stage and involves pulping the cherry to remove the fruit but leaving the sticky mucilage intact during the drying stage. As it dries, this becomes sticky with a ‘honey’-like texture.

Coffee Origin
Rwanda 🇷🇼
The majority of the coffee grown in Rwanda comes from Reb Bourbon trees grown on small hold farms and delivered to a local washing station for processing. The picture on the shows the Bwishaza washing station surrounded by farms that include coffee, bananas, cassava and other essential crops.
Coffee Varietal
Bourbon
One of the oldest and most influential arabica varietals, Bourbon traces its origins to the island of Réunion (formerly Bourbon), where it was cultivated from Yemen's Typica stock. It's prized for its complex sweetness, often yielding notes of caramel, fruit, and chocolate. Bourbon tends to be delicate and susceptible to disease, but its cup quality is considered exceptional, and it forms the genetic backbone of many modern varietals.
We clean up after ourselves.
Ecommerce deliveries have a carbon footprint. That's why we support verified projects that remove carbon from the air.
Every delivery’s carbon footprint is calculated based on weight, shipping method, and distance traveled. We neutralize these emissions by purchasing verified carbon removal credits from groundbreaking projects. When you add a contribution to your order, 100% of that money is used to pay for additional carbon removal.
With your purchase, you’ll join a community of proactive merchants and customers dedicated to a sustainable future. Together, we've removed emissions for over 84 million deliveries and removed over 58 thousand tonnes of carbon.
We work with a network of pioneering carbon removal companies that have been vetted by the commerce platform Shopify.
