Based at our speciality coffee roastery in Burgess Hill, West Sussex — just 20 minutes from Brighton, 15 minutes from Horsham, and easy reach from Crawley, Haywards Heath and Mid Sussex — our barista training course is a hands-on, personal experience in the world of speciality coffee.

Whether you're a home enthusiast who wants to finally dial in that espresso, or a café professional looking to sharpen your technique, our courses are tailored entirely to you. No two sessions are the same, and you can expect 2.5 hours of in-depth coffee education.

What we cover

Every course is shaped around your goals and experience level, but typically includes:

  • Setting up your grinder — understanding grind size, dose and how small adjustments make a big difference
  • Espresso extraction — dialling in dose, weight and time for a consistently great shot
  • Milk steaming — texture, temperature and the science behind silky microfoam
  • Latte art — from your first pour to something you'll actually want to photograph
  • Cupping and coffee tasting — how to identify flavour, evaluate quality, and develop your palate

Roastery-based, specialty-led

Your session takes place inside our working roastery — the same space where we roast coffee sourced directly from our producer partners in Rwanda, Costa Rica and beyond. You'll leave not just with better technique, but with a real understanding of where great coffee comes from and why it tastes the way it does.

Incredible experience

This was absolutely the best experience. Bought as a gift for me and it surpassed all expectation! Beckie’s knowledge was matched by her enthusiasm and love for the industry and it really shows in how she teaches. I’d definitely do this again to learn more!

Great fun and really informative!

My wife and I did the course recently and it was a really great way to spend the morning! Becki was a fantastic host and trainer - she is fun and friendly but more importantly gets across the nuances of coffee sourcing, roasting and brewing. I never realised how much difference that minor changes in brewing time or temperature could make to the flavour of a cup of coffee. Would happily recommend this course to anyone who wants to know a bit more about the art of coffee making and the great coffees this family brand produces - a fun way to learn and drink coffee!

Barista Course

This course with Beckie was excellent. I had all of the equipment and none of the skill and the course was a present from my daughters. Thanks to Beckie’s careful instruction and guidance, totally pitched at my and my husband’s skill level, we came away feeling confident we could now make a range of really good coffees. Really illuminating on all things coffee, and would highly recommend.

A fascinating insight into the roasting process and how different flavours are enhanced throughout this process.
Becky was very informative during the course and answered all questions comprehensively whilst teaching the art of a professional coffee at the same time. An afternoon well spent and I would highly recommend it.

Excellent!

We recently did our Barista Course with Beckie. It was truly exceptional - given it was just the two of us with her, she completely personalised the content to our (many) questions and focus areas. We started with a tour of the roastery which was amazing to see, and then spent the rest of the time covering dialling in espresso, how to taste properly, milk frothing and latte art. We had some experience already, so it was great that Beckie went that level deeper with us and helped us trouble shoot some of the issues we’ve been having. Having implemented some of her tips at home already has resulted in delicious espresso at home. She is also incredibly nice and approachable - you can tell that this is her passion, and her knowledge base is super impressive.

Amazing morning!

Thanks for the great experience. Beckie was so knowledgeable and really tailored the experience to our need. We learned a lot and made big progress not only in our espresso making but with our general knowledge of coffee production and brewing as well. Would definitely recommend the experience to anyone. Thanks again for a superb morning.

Barista Course

I had a super interesting and fun morning on the Barista course. Beckie showed me the business side and explained the roasting process, explained all the different beans, varietals and processes, and roasting profiles, and then we went through some theory and practice of making lattes using commercial machines. I got some useful tips for improving my latte art. Really generous with her time and answered all my questions. Thanks Beckie!

First class

This training is absolutely spot on. Beckie offers a wealth of experience and knowledge and makes it fun in the process.
We were asked what we wanted to get out of the training and Beckie dived straight into that so it really was tailored to us. We crammed so much into the time without feeling rushed and we feel better placed to really take on our business venture after this training. Couldn’t recommend highly enough. Thanks Beckie

Fabulous experience - Informative Course - Great training - TASTY!!

We totally enjoyed our time with the highly knowledgeable but fun Beckie! Both my son and I wanted to gain the skills needed to use industrial coffee machines in a formal work environment and at home and Beckie nailed the brief. The tour of the roastery provided a great contextual background, the making & testing of espresso, steaming milk correctly and latte art were the perfect combo (along with relevant health & safety requirements). You gave us confidence to 'Tamp & Go' plus handy notes to take away made the experience complete - thank you Beckie you are a star (and it's not the 50 espressos I drank, I promise!)
