Meet The Producers

Karinga Coffee Factory is located in Central Province, Thika District in Ndarugu location of Gatundu division near Gatundu town at Kiambu county. 500 small hold farmers grown and harvest coffee cherry for delivery to the washing station.

The main varieties of coffee grown are SL28, SL34 and Ruiru 11, with SL28 and SL34 accounting for 99% of all coffee produced, while Ruiru 11 accounts for 1 % of all production.

Harvesting & Processing

After harvesting all the coffee is delivered to the factory and undergoes a washed processing method. Water is pumped from River Rwabura to the reservoir tanks for pulping and recirculation.

After pulping the coffee to remove the outer layer of fruit the coffee is fermented overnight. The following day the coffee is washed, soaked and spread out on the drying tables. The parchment is then frequently turned on the drying tables, sorted and stored awaiting delivery to the dry mill.
