Changes to the Pioneer blend

Changes To The Pioneer Blend

The Pioneer blend has always been one of our most popular offerings both for home and wholesale customers. The idea behind the Pioneer blend was to showcase bright, fruity and juicy coffees. These were either a blend of washed and natural processed coffees or two washed coffees and always at least one from Africa.

After our recent trip to Rwanda we decided that we'd love to be able to support our relationship producers even more. The best way to do this was to be able to offer a single origin relationship coffee as the Pioneer.

This means that from the 1st of June 2018 our Pioneer blend will become a single origin washed coffee from the relationship producers that we work with in Rwanda. It will start off as a wet fermented, double soaked washed coffee from Bwishaza co-operative. We've been working with Bwishaza co-operative for three years now and visit them every year. They are very focused on producing great quality coffees and work with us on a variety of unusual processing methods not often found in Rwanda. We love supporting community focused coffee producers, Bwishaza is a true co-operative which means all the coffee farming members have an an investment in the operation and are committed to running a sustainable business.

They are also very active within the local community and recently part funded the construction of a new school for the children within the local area:

The school buildings are complete but the new toilet block is only partly finished. We've committed to raising the funds needed to complete the toilets which we hope to complete over the next few months.

We know you'll love the new Pioneer and if you'd like to contribute to the school project please keep an eye out on our future blog posts and social media.
