Brew recipe

This coffee works best as an espresso but can also be brewed for filter if you enjoy rich chocolate notes and lower acidity.

Espresso: Dose 18 gram to 36-38 gram yield over about 30 seconds. 
Filter: Dose 15g-17g, water 250g.

  • About Nova Espresso Blend

    Nova Espresso blend is our take on a more traditional high-quality Italian-style espresso blend.

    The blend contains:

    Costa Rica La Cumbre 20%
    Rwanda Liza washed 30%
    Brazil Inhame natural 50%

    Based on a really good quality coffee from Brazil, this blend is roasted a touch darker than our Workhorse blend. We've developed the blend and roast style to suit espresso extraction and it's easy to work with and fairly forgiving.

The Producer

Bwishaza

Bwishaza washing station is one of our relationship producers and we've been working with them since 2016. They are co-operative owned and work with around 600 small-hold farmers. The co-operative produces a wide range of coffees for us include anaerobic natural, honey process and washed coffees.

The Producer

Inhame

Brazil Inhame is a small family farm with 28 hectares of coffee trees located near to the town of Campos Altos. The farm is owned by Marco Aurelio and is managed in partnership with his son Bruno (an agronomist).

Good flavour despite rubbish coffee machine!

We have opted for a subscription and this is delivered on a timely basis. We can't confirm the taste definitively, as our current coffee machine is one bean short of a grind - but the staff keep drinking it!

Delicious coffee at a great price

Ground fresh for espresso, they pull beautifully: a thick, persistent crema and a well-balanced flavour — notes of dark chocolate and caramel up front, with a clean, slightly fruity finish and no bitterness. They’re equally good as a flat white, holding their character nicely through the milk.

Not for me!

Tried thier Horsham Nova and felt it's too dark and taste similar like Italian dark roast and compared to other brands I tried.

Nova Espresso blend is our take on a more traditional high-quality Italian-style espresso blend and is described by us as 'medium-dark'. If you prefer a lighter roast, we'd suggest the Workhorse Blend, El Zumo or one of our single-origin coffees. Look out for the 'light roast' designation on the coffee or navigate to our Light Roast section on the website.

I ordered a few different varieties of beans to try and this was one of my favourites. It’s the perfect chocolatey tasting coffee that I love without any acidity at all. Easy to dial in and makes great milky drinks.

Darker, Not Dark Enough

This is clearly a freshly roasted, high quality batch of beans. Unfortunately, it is still not roasted dark enough to be drinkable without drowning it in milk. For an espresso, it is like drinking lemonade. The acidity is through the roof, and clearly still in the "specialty" coffee levels rather than that smooth classic Italian espresso.

Good taste, struggle to get any crema with EC685

I bought a bag of espresso ground Nova blend. I like its taste, but I'm not getting the full experience as I'm unable to get any crema. I suspect it needs some tuning of my little Delonghi EC685 to achieve this. (Suggestions would be welcome)

New coffee Machine needed ?

When I first tried this coffee, I thought wow, what a great taste, so much so, I went through the vendors bin to find a named packet. Sadly it doesn’t taste the same from my domestic machine though. I’ve tried all kinds of milk and quantities etc. Maybe it’s time for a new coffee machine.
