Our Costa Rican coffees are sourced directly by us from several dedicated, small producers. This stunning microlot comes from our friends at La Karola located in the Tarrazu region. They grow red and yellow catuai, and we asked them to create a microlot from just the yellow catuai cherry. This was hand harvested and very carefully sorted before drying on raised tables in a covered area.
The Mora family has owned the farm since 1960 and covers an area of 4 hectares in total split into different farm sections. We've been buying coffee from them since 2019 and love their dedication to producing fantastic natural processed coffees.
Costa Rican farmers are known for their tendency to experiment with various post harvest processing method and for planting rare and interesting coffees, such as SL-28 and Geisha. We've been buying our Costa Rican coffees direct from the same producers for several years with the help of Selva coffee.
The natural process is the most traditional method, where whole cherries are dried intact in the sun. As the fruit dries around the bean, it imparts a heavy body and intense fruit flavours. When well-executed, it produces a sweet and fruity coffee.
Wonderful tasting notes, great sweetness, slight acidity and rounded body. My favourite.

Great coffee!
Had both the Christmas and current La Karola and both have been fantastic! I normally buy 250g bags of most coffees, but I am now buying this in 1 kg bags to save having to order as often. A very enjoyable natural, that has great sweetness without much funkyness. Given it to friends and family who are not into specialty coffee, and they have all really enjoyed it to. I either make this using a clever dripper or as espresso.

Beautiful
As ever, very accurate tasting notes. Rum and raisin indeed. I enjoy it as an aeropress - espresso tends to lose its subtlety. Great coffee!
