  • About Decaf | Mexico

    Finding great-tasting decaf coffee can be challenging. Quite often, these are produced using poor-quality coffee that isn't traceable to farms or cooperatives. We work hard to source our decaf coffee from producers dedicated to sustainable farming methods. This is then decaffeinated using the chemical free Mountain Water method.

    This coffee is grown and harvested by a collective group of farmers. Rather than processing their own coffee, they deliver cherry to a local mill. The mill will sort and process this as a washed coffee. The outer layer of fruit is removed before washing and drying on concrete patios.

    All producers manage their farms using sustainable farming methods without the use of pesticides or damaging fertilizers.

    Coffee is then sent for decaffeination using the Mountain Water chemical-free decaffeination process that retains as much flavour as possible.

How is your decaf coffee made?

Our decaf coffee is produced using the Mountain Water Process, a natural and chemical-free method that gently removes caffeine while preserving the rich flavour profile of the coffee. This process uses pure water and temperature control instead of harsh solvents, making it one of the cleanest and most ethical ways to decaffeinate coffee.

Does Mountain Water decaf taste different to regular coffee?

Because the Mountain Water Process protects the natural oils in the coffee bean, our decaf retains the chocolate-led flavour profile and sweetness of a regular specialty coffee. Most customers tell us they can’t taste the difference, making it a great option for anyone looking for full-flavour decaf coffee in the UK.

Is your decaf coffee completely chemical-free?

Yes. Our decaf coffee is 100% chemical-free and processed without solvents such as methylene chloride or ethyl acetate. We only use natural water-based decaffeination, making it ideal for coffee drinkers looking for a cleaner and more sustainable decaf option.

What grind size should I choose for decaf coffee?

Our decaf coffee is available in a range of grind sizes including espresso, filter, cafetière, and whole bean. If you’re unsure which to pick, we recommend whole bean for maximum freshness, or a medium grind for filter coffee methods like V60 or Aeropress.

How should I store decaf coffee to keep it fresh?

Keep your decaf coffee in a sealed, airtight container away from heat, light, and moisture. For the best results, buy whole bean and grind just before brewing. We roast fresh in small batches here in Sussex, so you’ll receive decaf coffee at its peak flavour.

Very clean coffee, well packed

I have health issues which means I am extremely sensitive to chemicals and mold so cannot tolerate preground or impure coffee. This is my second kilo bag of the Swiss mountain decaf beans and I have no issues with it at all. I like a strong intense roast so I do need to leave it a bit longer because its not as strong in flavour otherwise, but it does have a lovely full rounded flavour once done. Its really well packaged in a resealable bag and delivered within a couple of days.

Dint think you can easily do better for decaf

I'd give this decaf a solid 3.5 stars, when compared with non-decaf beans.
Most I'd only give 2. (Its less dry and stale/over roasted than most)
That's just the market I suspect, and the limits of state worth putting through, and getting out the other end of the water process. I don't know.

Its a middle ground of coffee taste. Neither strong dark not especially fruity.
Unfortunately it's not organic according to it's description so I have to assume not.
Its all I've come to expect of decaf for proper coffee, it's ok.
Which I should highlight is hard to find. Most decaf coffees give me the impression they were very dry when they were roasted, and are over roasted. This is not, it achieves ok very satisfactorily. Id rate this 3.5 if I could.
The water process will always limit what's possible, but i can't help feeling it's also about partly about what the market makes available in terms of means/varities. I'm still looking for a fruity decaf. But then my main coffee is letting me down a bit there too lately

Maybe your coffee is very good, but until now we don't receive the package.
I don't know who is responsible.
Customs broker here is "Poșta Română" (which I did not choose) and the goods is "In the process of customs clearance" from 12 december.
Maybe next time you can choose another delivery company, I think they do better.

Very impressed

Trying a few different decaf coffees and this one came recommended online. At first taste I thought it was harsh but then after my palette got used to it I realised it was actually really nice and flavoursome and it was just my current coffee was bland in comparison. Definitely give it a go.

An Enjoyable Decaf

I recently switched to decaffeinated coffee and have been surprised at the limited number of enjoyable options on the market. I’ve noticed many decaf coffees have a bitterness and a chemical taste, so I set out to find something that was decaffeinated but an enjoyable drinking experience. Horsham has not disappointed.
