  • About La Aurora Red Honey | Costa Rica

This fantastic coffee comes from a micro mill located in Santa Maria de Dota owned by the Solis family. We've been buying from them for several years and visited them in February 2024.

Ivan and his family are post processing specialists. They purchase coffee cherry from local producers at high prices than the local co-operative will typically pay. They then focus on producing interesting micro lots using honey and natural processing.

After delivery, the coffee was fermented overnight and pulped to remove only a small amount of mucilage. The coffee was then dried on the concrete patios with a focus on slow drying to help to introduce more fruit character than is typically found in lighter honey-processed coffees.

The Producer

La Aurora

The Solis family micro mill is a success story built on the foundation of the coffee producing culture of the growing region, Tarrazu. Managed by Ivan Solis, the mill specializes in buying freshly harvested coffee cherry from small local farms and turning them into stunning microlots. We love being able to work directly with La Aurora.

Stunning

Last review I did on her I slated the coffee as tasting a bit like a fresh jungle in the mouth and too floral for me is the best way to describe my taste response.

This one is hands down the nicest coffee I have ever had the chance to squeeze through my aeropress! It’s delicious and I have rushed back to by 1kilo. I never want to drink from another bean! 5 stars from me :)
