Nova - Espresso Blend - Horsham Coffee Roaster
£6.25 GBP

Nova Espresso blend is our new take on a more tradition high quality Italian style espresso blend. Based around a really good quality coffee from Brazil, this blend is roasted a touch darker than our Workhorse blend. We've developed the blend and roast style to suit espresso extraction and it's easy to work with and fairly forgiving. It also tastes great in milk and the dark chocolate notes really cut through, even in an 8oz latte. If you are looking for a bright, juicy espresso we'd suggestion our Workhorse blend.

For espresso we suggest a brew ration of 1-2. For example, 18 gram dose to 36 grams of espresso. The timing is fairly forgiving with this one but something between 26 and 30 seconds is likely to yield the best results.

Tasting notes: Dark Chocolate, Nutty, Sweet Caramel

Brewing: This coffee works well with all filter brewers and espresso. For filter we recommend a 1 - 15 brew ratio, and for espresso a 1 - 2.1 brew ratio.
Example:
Filter: 17g - 250ml // Espresso: 18g - 36ml

Liza Washing station, Rwanda 20% (relationship coffee)
Varietal: Red Bourbon
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1650+masl

We first visited Liza washing station in May 2018 and have been buying coffee from them for two years.

Liza is owned by coffee farmer Jean Paul. The washing station processes coffee from his farm in addition to coffee from several hundred local farms in the area. Coffee cherry is delivered daily during the harvest season from February to June and processed on the same day. After delivery hand sorting and flotation is used to remove defects, after flotation the coffee is pulped to remove the fruit and fermented dry in large fermentation tanks. After fermentation the coffee is dried on raised tables and very carefully hand sorted to remove any defects. Jean Paul produces fantastic coffee and we are very excited to be able to work directly with him.

Costa Rica Daniela Gutierrez El Higueron 20%
Varietal: Caturra, Catuai
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1500-1900 masl

El Higueron is one of four different farms belonging to the Gutierrez family and is managed by Daniela. She is 25 years old, and studied Engineering before returning to her family farms to take over the wet and dry milling operation. The farm was founded in 2009 and the family specialises in producing lots using a range of processing methods that include washed, honey and naturals.

Coffee is harvested by hand to select only the ripe cherry and after this the fruit is removed using a Penagos Eco Pulper. These use less water than most other machines. After the fruit is removed the coffee is laid to dry on concrete patios for about 15 days. During the drying the coffee is turned on an hourly basis to ensure even and consistent drying.
Brazil Veloso Estate 60%
Varietal: Various
Process: Natural
Altitude: +-1000 masl

Located in the west Minas Gerais region of Brazil. Veloso estate is a large farm that grows a wide range of varietals and focuses on producing really great coffees. We've selected this particular coffee as it has a traditional nutty, chocolate, sweet profile that works particularly well in a blend designed for espresso. The farm is both Rainforest Alliance and UTZ certified.

Ideal for: Espresso. Works very well in milk based drinks. If you like dark roast filter coffee or cafetiere with lots of body, and tend to use milk, then this will work well too.

  • We recommending buying whole bean coffee and grinding before brewing. We also sell 250g bags pre-ground. 1kg bags are available as wholebean only.
  • Next working day dispatch on all coffee orders.
