Producer Overview

This natural processed coffee comes from a co-operative of coffee farmers located in Bensa, Sidama. Producers work together to produce a range of coffee including natural and washed processed coffees harvested from high altitude farms. The washing station is run by Tariku coffee and they focus on training farmers to achieve better quality and higher yields from their trees.

Harvesting and Processing:

Coffee is grown and harvested on small hold farms located between 1900 and 2150masl. This is considered very high altitude helping to contribute to a stunning cup profile. All coffee is hand harvested with very careful ripe cherry selection. After harvesting the coffee is delivered to the washing station and dried on raised tables.

Ethiopia Burtukaana Bombe

Tasting Notes:

Blueberry, strawberry, red grape. This is a classic Ethiopian natural processed coffee showcasing juicy, fruity notes that we absolutely love from the best coffees of Ethiopia.

Brewing:

This coffee works for all brew methods but can be a challenge for espresso due to the light roast and high acidity. We prefer this coffee brewed as a filter without milk.

Filter: Dose 15g, water 250g.

Espresso: Dose 17 gram to 40 gram yield over about 30 seconds.

This coffee is available as whole bean and pre-ground, but we recommend always grinding fresh before brewing. We sell a range of grinders if you would like to grind this coffee fresh at home.

Lovely filter bean

As per the brewing notes this coffee definitely lends itself better to filter or pour over rather than espresso. Used with V60 and Moccamaster filter and no added milk, this makes a delicious cup. Would definitely buy again

So interesting

I love Ethiopian coffees, they suit my pallet.
I found it best made in the aeropress and then add milk. It has a great aroma which helps invite you to try and then the taste evolves as you enjoy and it is to be enjoyed.
I still think the Ethiopian Samii Bensa Lot 1 has the edge, as my all time favourite but this is pretty close as a substitute.

Funky, Clean and Tasty!

This Ethiopian natural was delightfully unusual, with bold fruit flavours of fresh summer fruits, with a delicious caramel sweetness to it!
I found the roast had good development and gave the coffee a fuller, rounder flavour, while retaining the acidic characteristics often found in Ethiopian coffee!
I found this coffee paired better with milk as it helped to cut through some of the acidity.

More going on than your average Ethiopian bean

Not generally a fan of Ethiopian coffees but this is lovely. Lots of natural sweetness and just enough fruit to keep it interesting without being overbearing. Definitely worth a go. I miss having a machine to pull some shots on as reckon this would be great
