Buy single origin coffee beans online from a Sussex speciality roaster

Every single origin coffee on this page is freshly roasted at our Sussex roastery on our Loring S35 eco-roaster. We work directly with producers in Costa Rica, Rwanda, Kenya and Brazil — including our 10-year partnership with the Bwishaza co-operative in Rwanda — and source the rest of our range through importers who share our commitment to transparency, traceability and fair prices to farmers. Whether you're brewing espresso, V60, AeroPress or cafetière, you'll find a single origin coffee here to suit your method and your palate.

How to choose a single origin coffee

Start with the processing method

How a coffee is processed after harvest shapes its flavour more than the country it came from. Washed coffees are typically clean, bright and structured — think citrus, florals and balanced acidity. Natural (or dry-process) coffees ferment with the fruit still attached to the bean, producing juicy, fruit-forward cups with notes of berry, tropical fruit and can be very complex. Honey processed coffees sit between the two: sticky-sweet with caramel, dried fruit and a softer acidity. We also stock anaerobic and extended fermentation lots that push flavour further into rare territory — think rum, passion fruit and tropical floral notes.

Match the origin to your taste

  • East African coffees (Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia etc) tend toward bright, juicy and tea-like, with red berry, blackcurrant and citrus notes. Excellent for filter brewing.
  • Central and South American coffees (Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Brazil) lean toward chocolate, nut, caramel and stone-fruit sweetness. Versatile across espresso and filter.
  • Rare and exclusive lots showcase unusual varietals (Striped Bourbon, Pink Bourbon, SL28) or experimental processing. Browse our Rare & Exclusive collection for the most distinctive cups.

Single origin for espresso or filter?

Most of our single origins work beautifully on both espresso and filter — we roast to highlight the character of the green coffee rather than to a fixed roast colour. For espresso, look for our medium and medium-dark single origins; for V60, AeroPress or cafetière, our lighter roasts shine. Every product page lists the recommended brew methods.

Direct trade single origin coffees

A growing share of our single origin coffees come from producers we know by name and have worked with for years — like the Bwishaza co-operative in Rwanda, Don Eli and La Karola in Costa Rica, and Liza washing station in Rwanda. These are our relationship coffees: we visit the farms, agree fair prices direct with producers, and report what we paid for the green coffee in our annual Transparency Report.

Choosing Coffee Beans

Single origin coffee bean FAQ's

What is a single origin coffee?

Single origin coffees come from a single processing source that could be a single farm or a co-operative or coffee producers.

We avoid referring to a single origin coffee as coming from a specific country or large region. We believe a true single origin coffee should come from a single producer or a group of producers attached to a co-operative operation centered around a town or village.

Where do you source your single origin coffee?

Our single origin coffees come from producers in many different countries. We like to focus on our direct trade links in Costa Rica, Rwanda, Kenya and Brazil.

Coffees from other areas of the world will come from select ethical importers.

What is the difference between a single origin coffee and a blend?

Our blends typically contain two or more coffees from different countries. We do this to help with year round consitency and to combine taste profiles that work well together.

A single origin coffee will come from a specific farm or co-operative or farmers.

Why should you buy single origin coffee?

Single origin coffees typically showcase distinctive tasting notes that are unique to the varietal and processing method chosen by the producer. For example, natural processed single origin coffees will usually showcase juicy, fruity, full bodied flavours. A washed coffee might highlight acidity and gentle, balanced fruit notes.

Is single origin coffee better for espresso or filter?

Both. We roast most of our single origins to a roast level that works across espresso, V60, AeroPress and cafetière. Lighter roasts tend to shine on pour-over methods, while our medium and medium-dark single origins make excellent espresso. Each product page lists our recommended brew methods and a 15–16g : 250g filter recipe

How fresh is the coffee?

Every order is packed to order at our Sussex roastery and roasted on our Loring S35. Orders placed before noon on a roast day typically ship within 24 hours. We don't hold pre-roasted stock — your beans are roasted, packed and dispatched within 7 days of roasting. We suggest resting for 10 days before brewing.
