Nutty, chocolate body with sweet caramel, orange and citrus notes
Workhorse is built around the concept of consistency and reliability. This blend features our relationship coffees produced by hard working farmers around the world and purchased by us in large volumes. This gives us consistency over the course of the year enabling us to provide a reliable and dependable taste profile. From time to time the ingredients will change but unlike our 'Pioneer' option we aim to substitute similar coffees when changing this blend.
Fazenda São Paulo, Brazil 40%
Process: Pulped Natural
Altitude: 950 - 1,100 masl
Sao Paulo was established in 2008 by the Montanari family and is managed by fourth generation brothers, Roger and Marcello. Under the watchful eye of their highly experienced coffee farming father, the brothers are pushing the boundaries of modern coffee farming in Brazil.
This lot of pulped natural Catuai has been picked and pulped to remove all mucilage before being immediately dried on African style raised beds. This results in a cleaner cup than natural processed coffee, with brighter notes, a lighter body and greater complexity.
Rancho Alegre, Nicaragua 20%
Altitude: 1,280 - 1,400 masl
This estate is owned by Victor Robelo. He owns a few different estates in Matagalpa and exports the coffee under the name” Finca Las Nubes”. He has a lot of experience in producing micro-lots utilising a variety of processing methods. Every lot is processed at his own mill and as well as his full time employees he also employs seasonal pickers to whom he offers housing and food. The competitive wages he offers ensures that people come back year after year and results in greater attention to detail during the harvest. This lot is super clean and sweet with juicy citrus and soft caramel notes.
Lot 1 - Gishyita, Rwanda 40% (Exclusive Relationship Lot)
Varietal: Red Bourbon
Altitude: 1,643 masl
The Gishyita washing station is located in the Karongi District in the Western Province of Rwanda. This is one of our relationship coffees and also one of the first lots we are using from this seasons harvest. Due to the attention to detail paid to the processing it is tasting super clean and bright. This lot brings caramel and blood orange to the blend as well as delicate floral notes.
Ideal for: Espresso. Works very well in milk based drinks. If you like a more traditional filter or aeropress (lots of chocolate notes with good body) then this will work very well.
