Peru coffee farms

Above: Huabal valley and coffee farms

Farm Overview

This coffee comes from a small farm owned by Gregorio Esquen in the district of Huabal. A small plot of only 2 hectares situated at 1850 masl, the farm produces the Caturra varietal harvested between the months of July and September. He hires 2 additional staff during the harvest season to assist on the farm.

Harvesting and Processing:

The coffee is carefully hand-harvested and pulped to remove most of the fruit and mucilage. After pulping, the coffee is fermented for 32 hours and washed a second time. Drying takes place on raised tables protected by large solar tents open at the ends for good airflow. Drying takes about 14 days.

After drying, the coffee is transported to the local dry mill to be further sorted and prepared for export.

Tasting Notes:

This is a fantastic clean washed coffee that showcases the best of washed coffees produced in Peru. Tasting notes include cherry, dried fig, toffee and a hint of strawberry.

Brewing:

This coffee works well for all brew methods.

Filter: Dose 15g, water 250g.

Espresso: Dose 17 gram to 40 gram yield over about 30 seconds.

This coffee is available as whole bean and pre-ground, but we recommend always grinding fresh before brewing. We sell a range of grinders if you would like to grind this coffee fresh at home.

Subtle and mild

A very nice coffee, easy drinking as an americano, I haven't tried it as an espresso as I prefer a bit more bite. I can definitely catch hints of cherry and toffee. Will be ordering again
