Varietal – Red and Yellow Catuai Preparation – Natural Location – São João do Manhuaçu, Matas de Minas Altitude –800-1150 masl
Producer Overview:
Fazenda Jatoba is located in the Matas de Minas region and is organic certified. Jatoba is one of five farms owned by the Dutra family who have been producing coffee since the 1950s.
Like all the Fazendas Dutra farms, Fazenda Jatobá has been meticulously cultivated in perfect harmony with nature for more than 50 years. The climate, the soil and the altitude convey distinctive aromas, flavours and a balanced body that have been recognized by multiple coffee quality competitions, national and international. Recently, FazendaJatobá, named after the dominant tree species located thought the farm's forests, has taken steps to become certified organic, a rarity for much of Brazil’s speciality coffee sector. This means that Fazenda Jatobá crop is produced using only organic inputs, such as upcycled coffee pulp for fertiliser. This has led to Fazendas Dutra’s efforts being recognised, as they were awarded the Sustainable Farm Award by Globo Rural Magazine; one of the leading agribusiness publications in the country.
The Dutra Family manages their farms with a strong respect for nature. 35-40% of the farm remains under conservation, helping to preserve native flora and fauna. Brothers Walter and Ednilson have planted “green curtains” to protect against strong winds, which provide a natural, eco-friendly control against pests. The brothers also focus on the preservation of local water supplies and carefully manage the water used in their Fully-Washed and Semi-Washed processing. This effort to cultivate coffee amongst nature can however produce its challenges. The coffee plantations are planted among rocks, woods and waterfalls, meaning labour is difficult and expensive to retain. The mountainous landscape also means that brothers Walter and Ednilson are unable to use mechanical machines to harvest, again increasing the toll on pickers. However, it is this effort which in turn produces such a differentiated product, with Fazenda Jatobá’s coffees often classified among the best coffees in Brazil for both quality and sustainability.
Harvesting and Processing:
Due to the difficult terrain of this 51-hectare farm, most of the coffee is hand harvest which is unusual in Brazil. After harvest, the coffee is dried on concrete patios. All coffee at Jatoba is farmed organically and they are certified organic.

Snickers bar tast
Great roast both for espresso and milk-based drinks. I was surprised with the snickers bar tasting note, but as mentioned by others it does actually taste like snickers! If you like that kind of tasting notes you should give it a try. One of the best roasts I've tried from Horsham.

Does indeed taste like snickers
Light roast that works very well with milk as a flat white, with clear chocolate, caramel and peanut flavours. Haven't tried it as a neat espresso.
Loved that this was a selection of coffees, I got to decide for myself what I liked, and not too much of one flavour that I may not have liked.
Liked all - but didn't enjoy the Rwandan as much as costa rica.
