Organic Coffee Blend

Tasting Notes: Red berries, orange and chocolate with some nutty notes

Brewing: This coffee works well with all filter brewers and espresso machnies. For filter we recommend a 1 - 16 brew ratio, and for espresso a 1 - 2 (2.1) brew ratio.

Filter: 15g - 250ml // Espresso: 18g - 36-38g

Our Organic coffee blend brings together two fantastic coffees from small hold producers in Peru and Colombia. Roasted to highlight sweet, chocolate notes making this a perfect coffee for espresso brewing or if you enjoy coffee with rich chocolate notes and good body. Great both with and without milk!

Peru - Cafe femenino co-operative 40%

Cafe Femenino is a project set up to support and empower women coffee producers around the world. It's been many years since we last had their coffee and we are very pleased to welcome this one back.

The coffee is produced by around 800 women coffee producers. They grow a range of different varietals including Typica, Bourbon and Villa Sarchi. Coffee is hand-harvested and delivered to local collection centres and taken for processing at a wet mill. Coffee is pulped to remove the fruit, washed and then sun-dried. This is a really great example of clean, juicy and well balanced organic coffee produced in Peru.

The following is taken from the Cafe Femenino website and explains a bit more about the project:

'Women in remote and rural coffee communities face a host of challenges that keep them trapped in poverty.  Many of these isolated women live in male-dominated societies and have very little financial control or decision-making power.

In 2004, 464 women farmers in northern Peru decided to change this dynamic by separating their coffee production from the men’s. In that moment, for the first time, this group of women created their own product and income. Their coffee cooperative CECANOR joined their commercial partner Organic Products Trading Company (OPTCO) to create Café Femenino—a gender-focused program to support social justice and empowerment for women coffee producers worldwide.'

Fazenda Jatoba is located in the Matas de Minas region and is organic certified. Jatoba is one of five farms owned by the Dutra family who have been producing coffee since the 1950s.

Brazil Jatoba organic coffee farm

The Dutra
Family manages their farms with a strong respect for nature. 35-40% of the farm remains under conservation, helping to preserve native flora and fauna. Brothers Walter and Ednilson have planted “green curtains” to protect against strong winds, which provide a natural, eco-friendly control against pests. The brothers also focus on the preservation of local water supplies and carefully manage the water used in their Fully-Washed and Semi-Washed processing. This effort to cultivate coffee amongst nature can however produce its challenges. The coffee plantations are planted among rocks, woods and waterfalls, meaning labour is difficult and expensive to retain. The mountainous landscape also means that brothers Walter and Ednilson are unable to use mechanical machines to harvest, again increasing the toll on pickers. However, it is this effort which in turn produces such a differentiated product, with Fazenda Jatobá’s coffees often classified among the best coffees in Brazil for both quality and sustainability.
  • We recommending buying whole bean coffee and grinding before brewing. We also sell 250g bags pre-ground. 1kg bags are available as wholebean only.

Organic Blend

Lovely taste, slight sharp bitterness towards the end which is exactly how I like it. A really nice all round daily staple.

Excellent taste

Once I got the grind setting right I could taste the notes in all their glory. Excellent both as an espresso but also for milk based drinks

Really smooth and easy drinking.

Best coffee by far

The hints are so clear to the tongue! Love it

Colombia - Finca Mikava Geisha

Right for us

We have been sampling a different coffee each month from different roasteries. This coffee is the best for us so far. We like a strong dark coffee but not bitter so we can taste more subtle flavours underneath. Guests comment positively about this coffee. Twice the price of supermarket beans but a luxury worth indulging in.

Great coffee and top filters

Ordered Rwandan coffee beans and V60 papers. Came rapidly, does the job and I am now making a damn fine cup of coffee each morning
