During the course of the year, we regularly feature fantastic small individual farmer micro-lots brought to us by The Green Collection. Many of these fantastic coffees are produced by small-hold farmers who are using organic farming methods but might not be certified. Within their coffee-producing communities, there are many farmers who have chosen to certify their farms as organic.

This coffee is an excellent example of a juicy but well-balanced coffee from Colombia and is produced by farmers from the Planadas area of Tolima. These farmers are grouped together into associations, this helps to consolidate costs and allows farmers to work together to produce larger lots with full organic certification.

Planadas Organic Coffee Farm

Each small-hold farmer will hand harvest from their trees often on farms less than 5 hectares in size. After harvesting ripe cherry the coffee is rested then pulped and fermented before drying on patios or raised tables. Some producers might not have space or equipment to process and dry their own coffee. In this case, they will deliver harvested cherry to a centralized washing station for processing, similar to the harvesting and processing process in east Africa.

Once dried to a moisture content of about 11 the coffee is taken for milling and farmer lots are combined and prepared for export.

Tasting Notes:

Chocolate, gentle orange acidity and brown sugar and caramel sweetness. This is a lovely well rounded and balanced coffee that is great both with and without milk.

Brewing:

This coffee works well for all brew methods.

Filter: Dose 15g, water 250g.

Espresso: Dose 17 gram to 40 gram yield over about 30 seconds.

This coffee is available as wholebean and pre ground but we recommend always grinding fresh before brewing. We sell a range of grinders if you would like to grind this coffee fresh at home.

Good taste, and not acidic

The taste was mild and gentle, and, more importantly, non acidic - mild and gentle on my old digestion system. Great for anyone intolerant to acidic foods…Colombia Coffee Planadas Community coffee tastes even better than the previous bag i’d bought after using the hand grinder from Horsham Coffee Company after reading other reviews.
The grinder isn’t easy to use, as both hands need to be quite strong, one to hokd it firm to the worktop, the other to turn the handle. I have managed it, and thankful that I only do it once a day.

We’re not easily pleased - honest!

This is our new favourite. We were disappointed that our usual Kenyan coffee was not available, but true to form Horsham never disappoints. This has a slightly fuller depth and richness to the flavour and makes a perfect cup every time. We’re on our 2nd kilo now!

Smells and Tastes Incredible!

I’ve recently purchased a coffee machine and the advice was to get local coffee — it is usually the freshest. I decided to order the organic blend, and just the bouquet of the beans was enough to wake you up. It smelt incredible; the taste and the freshness exceeded my expectations — and my coffee machine loves them. I make a perfect espresso each morning. I will definitely be purchasing them again as and when needed.

Super fluffy

Fantastic quality grinder, built like a tank, super fluffy output, no static issues.

only flaw re usability is no auto off and touch buttons are not the most responsive so manual grinding is not most accurate

Subtle, very nice coffee

Had this in a coffee shop in Brighton then bought a kilo. It's an absolute belter you won't be disappointed.
