Christmas Coffee Blend

Size: 250g
Grind: Whole Bean

Christmas Coffee Blend

We launched our Christmas Coffee blend in 2019 and it was a huge hit! We are very excited to release our 2020 Christmas blend that brings together some wonderful coffees from around the world with flavours that are sure to be a hit around the Christmas period. Our Christmas Coffee Blend focuses on using great, fresh crop coffees that work together to create something fun and exciting for the Christmas season.

This has been a very challenging year for many people around the world including coffee producers who have had significant challenges and some have seen reduced buying due to so many global challenges. We are doing our best to sell as much coffee as possible to support these producers! We also wanted to support a more local initiative that is very relevant at this time and have chosen to work with FareShare Sussex, an organization that works to distribute surplus food to those in need. Please head over to their website to find out more about this great program that tackles food waste and hunger in the UK.

For every 1kg sold we will donate £3 and for every 250g bag sold we will donate £1 to FareShare.

This years Christmas blend containers the following 3 great coffees:

Rwanda Liza

Varietal –  Red Bourbon
Preparation – Washed
Location – Near to Kibuye, Lake Kivu
Altitude – 1600+ masl

We've been working directly with Liza washing station for several years. Liza washing station is owned by Jean Paul. He is a second-generation coffee farmer who has worked for many years as an agronomy consultant both in Rwanda and the Congo. His farm has about 6000 trees and he processes coffee from his own farm and from several hundred local small-hold farmers within the community.

Costa Rica El Mirador

Varietal –  Villa Sarchi, some Catuai
Preparation – Natural
Location – West Valley, Costa Rica
Altitude – 1500 masl

El Mirador is located in the West Valley to the north-west of the capital, San Jose. The farm altitude is around 1500 masl and is located on the southern slopes of two volcanoes. El Mirador is owned by Olman Aguilera, a second-generation coffee producer. His family have been involved in coffee production for several decades. His coffee is processed as a patio dried natural at a local dry mill helping to create wonderful fruit flavours.

Brazil Daterra Estate

Varietal –  Various
Preparation – Pulped Natural
Altitude – 1000 masl

Daterra is a large and well established Rainforest Alliance certified coffee farm. The estate covers an area that has 40% of the land dedicated to coffee production and 60% left as a private nature reserve. They focus on producing a wide range of coffees and we've selected a coffee with a flavour profile that is perfect for espresso.

This coffee is great for multiple brew methods. Works very well in milk based drinks. If you like a medium roast filter coffee or cafetiere with lots of body, and tend to use milk, then this will work well too.

Tasting Notes:

We've created this blend to showcase the wonderful flavours of Christmas time! The Brazil contribute chocolate and nut flavours with the Rwanda bringing a lovely sweetness with orange notes. The El Mirador natural adds a lovely syrupy layer that includes dates and raisins (think Christmas cake!)

Brewing:

This coffee works well for all brew methods.

Filter: Dose 15g, water 250g.

Espresso: Dose 18 gram to 40 gram yield over about 30 seconds.

This coffee is available as whole bean and pre-ground but we recommend always grinding fresh before brewing. We sell a range of grinders if you would like to grind this coffee fresh at home.

Really nice blend. Arrived promptly. Tiny bit of leakage from a small gap in the seal of one of the bags which might have been an issue if it had been planned as a gift. Luckily had ordered an extra one for myself.
