Christmas Coffee Blend

We launched our Christmas Coffee blend in 2019 and it was a huge hit! We are very excited to release our 2020 Christmas blend that brings together some wonderful coffees from around the world with flavours that are sure to be a hit around the Christmas period. Our Christmas Coffee Blend focuses on using great, fresh crop coffees that work together to create something fun and exciting for the Christmas season.

This has been a very challenging year for many people around the world including coffee producers who have had significant challenges and some have seen reduced buying due to so many global challenges. We are doing our best to sell as much coffee as possible to support these producers! We also wanted to support a more local initiative that is very relevant at this time and have chosen to work with FareShare Sussex, an organization that works to distribute surplus food to those in need. Please head over to their website to find out more about this great program that tackles food waste and hunger in the UK.

For every 1kg sold we will donate £3 and for every 250g bag sold we will donate £1 to FareShare.

This years Christmas blend containers the following 3 great coffees:

Rwanda Bwishaza Lot 4

Varietal –  Red Bourbon
Preparation – Washed
Location – Near to Kibuye, Lake Kivu
Altitude – 1600+ masl

We first visited Bwishaza co-operative in 2015 and have been buying coffee from them every year since our first visit. You can find out more information about this great coffee on the Rwanda Bwishaza Lot 4 product page.

Honduras Jose Danilo Fuentes

Varietal –  Obata
Preparation – Natural
Location – Las Casitas, Corqui, Copan
Altitude – 1400+ masl

Danilo Fuentes Medina is the owner of a small organic farm in las Casitas, Corquin. The farm area is less than one hectare and is planted entirely with Obata variety, which Danilo chose for its high yield and good cup quality. All the processing for the ML’s takes place at the Aruco mill to centralise and have greater control over the process to create consistent procedures but also to reduce the risk on the producer. The mill is also at 800masl which gives a drier more stable climate to dry the coffee compared to up at the farms where the weather can be less predictable.

Brazil Guima Estate

Varietal –  Various
Preparation – Natural
Location – Varjao de Minas, Minas Gerais
Altitude – 1000+ masl

Guima is a brand of coffees that are produced in three different locations. Fazenda São Lourenço features a flat topography, typical of the savanna in Cerrado Mineiro, Fazenda Brasis is nestled among woodlands and Fazenda Santa Rita is in a valley full of Bourbons. The farms have achieved the Climate Module criteria of Rainforest Alliance, which reinforces the Guima commitment to practices that are in line with climate change mitigation and adaptation. Climate-smart agriculture is able to improve profitability by reducing energy and water consumption, generating new products from agricultural waste, and ensuring more efficient use of fertilizers. Guima is also UTZ certified.

Tasting Notes:

We've created this blend to showcase the wonderful flavours of Christmas time! The Brazil contribute chocolate and nut flavours with the Rwanda bringing a lovely sweetness with orange notes. The Honduras adds a lovely syrupy layer that includes dates and raisin (think Christmas cake!)

Brewing:

This coffee works well for all brew methods.

Filter: Dose 15g, water 250g.

Espresso: Dose 18 gram to 40 gram yield over about 30 seconds.

This coffee is available as whole bean and pre-ground but we recommend always grinding fresh before brewing. We sell a range of grinders if you would like to grind this coffee fresh at home.
